THE CLANS
Vampiric Society: Every vampire is embraced into a clan, which is a line of vampires tracing their ancestry back to the third generation. Each Clan has specific strengths and weaknesses, as well as their own distinct history. A vampire without a Clan is Caitiff, generally a second-class citizen in vampiric society.
Vampires generally belong to the Camarilla: The Camarilla consists of those clans who are dedicated to preserving the Masquerade and (generally) their Humanity. It should be noted that the distinction is not between Good Vampires and Bad Vampires as much as between Bad Vampires and Worse Vampires (which is which depends largely on who you ask).
Side note: To prevent characters from being spread too thin in Bloodlines' early stages, we currently offer only these four clans to be played. More clans will be added as the site grows. So, from a in-character perspective, more clans exist (For example, having your character say only these four clans exist would therefore be wrong).CLAN VENTRUE - THE CLAN OF KINGS
Name: Ventrue
Plural: Ventrue
Pronunciation: Vehn'-troo
Nickname(s): Blue bloods, patricians, warlords
Faction: Camarilla
Disciplines: Dominate
The Ventrue are the leaders of the Camarilla, and are businessmen, aristocrats, monarchs, captains of industry, crime leaders, chairmen of the board, investment bankers, and any other profession where control and power are required. They are the clan from whom the majority of Princes come. Ventrue are choosy who they Embrace and who they feed from: every Ventrue feeds from a specific type of Vessel, and only from that type of vessel. The blood of rulers has flown in the veins of the Ventrue since time immemorial - no surprise then that lineage and loyalty are held in high esteem. Clan Ventrue is seen as the architects of the vampiric society and the guardians of both Camarilla and the Masquerade. They consider themselves the only thing standing between the Kindred and their extinction.
Weakness: Ventrue are known to have a "certain type": They can only feed from a specific type of human: Humans that are exceptionally healthy and take great care of their health and body. If they feed from any other type of human, they will experience difficulty keeping the blood down.CLAN MALKAVIAN - THE CLAN OF THE MOON
Name: Malkavian
Plural: Malkavians
Pronunciation: Mal-kay-vee-uhn
Nickname(s): Kooks, lunatics, madmen, malks
Faction: Camarilla
Disciplines: Auspex
While not always insane, that's usually what the Malkavians are known for: Kooks, lunatics, madmen, jesters... Perhaps not as fitting as "seers". The Malkavians understand things other people do not: And is deeply affected by that understanding. While it's the clan that shows the most mental illnesses (depression, psychosis, compulsive disorders, etc), this has not kept the clan from finding a place in Kindred society. Advisers, strategists, preachers, hunters and yes, rulers; all Malkavians walk their very own path. Malkavians have a tendency to elicit quite a lot of reactions: Unease, curiosity, distrust, pity... Still, no vampire sees as much as a Malkavian.
Weakness: Malkavians suffer more easily from insanity and mental illnesses. Eventually, all Malkavians will develop some form of insanity or heavy mental illness.CLAN TOREADOR - THE CLAN OF THE ROSE
Name: Toreador
Plural: Toreador
Pronunciation: Tor'-ey-ah-dohr'
Nickname(s): Degenerates, artisans, epicureans, torries
Faction: Camarilla
Disciplines: Presence
The Toreador are perhaps the clan that spends the most time around humanity: They are generally obsessed with beauty in all forms, there are those who claim that the Toreador only chooses the most accomplished artists of each generation - whether they wielded the brush, the pen, their voice, body or mind, but that would only be half a lie. While the clan contains several great minds, there are also several one-hit wonders and posers embraced in the moment of fleeting passion. Toreador tend to get lost in art, becoming enraptured by beautiful things. Still, the Toreador are formidable in their own way: They're the clan that creates.
Weakness: The Toreador is easily captivated by beauty: They are very easily distracted and entranced by beautiful things. Such as a beautiful person, incredible piece of music/painting/etc, to the point where they might be distracted from what they were originally doing or thinking.CLAN BRUJAH - THE CLAN OF CHAMPIONS
Name: Brujah
Plural: Brujah
Pronunciation: Broo'-hah
Nickname(s): Rabble, Zealots, Agitators
Faction: Camarilla
Disciplines: Potence
Originally, the Brujah were warrior-philosophers, but are today more so considered rebels and political activists. The Brujah are powerful combatants and charismatic speakers, but are more prone to succumbing to Frenzy. While they don't consider themselves a huge part of kindred society, they like their presence to be known immediately when they first make their appearance. The Brujah have several fight clubs going, which attract even mortals. They use these events to assert their physical superiority to the rest of the clans and to celebrate the raw power of their bloodline. The champions of these fights are rumored to make good money hiring themselves out as muscle for anyone who can afford them. Supposedly, business is booming in Seattle these nights...
Weakness: The Brujah suffer from rage: They have a much harder time controlling their anger than other clans and therefore are also slightly more likely (and susceptible to frenzying).THIN BLOODS - BORN A CRIME
Name: Thin Blood
Plural: Thin Bloods
Pronunciation: -
Nickname(s): Outcasts, rabble, rejects
Faction: Camarilla or none.
Disciplines: Attenuabis
The term thin-blooded, or Thin Bloods is primarily used to refer to Caitiff and vampires of the last generations. Thin-blooded can be taken subjectively; generally, blood "thickness" is a relative term. Despite being permitted in the city, many thinbloods don’t survive very long. With little understanding of what they are or the rules of Kindred society, they face a struggle to simply exist in a city carved up by established political factions. Many are killed when they pose a threat to the Masquerade.
